Hobbs Heirloom quilt wadding (quilt batting) was created at the request of Harriet Hargrave to meet the needs of quilters. It is the only unbleached cotton quilt wadding that is easy to quilt by hand or machine and can be quilted up to 4” apart. Heirloom cotton quilt wadding shrinks 3-5%, and can be preshrunk to minimize undesired shrinkage. It is very clean cotton mixed with 20% polyester, lightly needlepunched and lightly resinated. This product has more loft than the typical cotton quilt wadding, which gives more definition to the stitch than other 100% cottons.
King size 120" x 120", 80% cotton, 20% polyester.
It is not recommended to put this wadding through a machine wash before quilting – pre-shrinking can be done by just soaking the wadding in luke-warm water in a bath or similar (without agitating), then drying flat – you can spin dry to get rid of the excess water.

I use Hobbs 80/20 wadding for most of my quilting projects. Its easy to handle and quilts up well.

I am used to using Quilters Dream 100% cotton. I felt this wadding was similar in quality to the Request Quilters Dream but nt as good as the Select. I have yte to mahine quilt it, but it felt thinner to me than the wadding I usually use.

I love this wadding, I always pre wash any wadding I machine quilt but if hand sewing I leave this one unwashed as live the effect when it slightly shrinks. It's such good quality and so versatile.

I bought the batting to use in a ‘quilting as you go’ method of patchwork but found it to be too unstable. It stretched making the patchwork wonky!! The product is lovely and really soft so I’ll be keeping it to insert into a future quilt. There’s nothing wrong with the product or great service that I received from this company but thought others might learn from my mistake. I used an alternative batting that has been needle punched through a thin base layer.
